Backpacks are stuffed, lunch boxes are packed, and… homework is WAITING TO BE DONE!. 😱 If your child acts like homework is the worst thing ever bc lets be real it can feel like another thing to do on your list, busy work, and your kid is having an ADHD meltdown so homework has become another headache—you’re NOT alone!!!
Getting into (or back into) homework habits takes time, but don’t worry!!! Here are 5 simple ways to make homework a little less “UGH” and a lot more “OK, we got this!!!”
1. Pick a Homework HQ 🎯
A designated homework spot = FOCUS MODE!!! Let your kiddo help set it up! Think cozy chair, fun desk accessories, maybe even a little corkboard for victories (And yes, Pinterest has a bazillion ideas for this!)
2. Set a Timer ⏳ (Seriously, It’s Magic!!!)
Homework isn’t just about getting stuff done—it’s also about building executive function skills (a fancy way of saying time management and planning). Set a visual timer so your kiddo can see how much time they have left! Bonus: Add brain breaks!!!
3. Make Homework Rules TOGETHER!!! 📜
Rules hit different when kids help make them! Try these:
✅ Snack first, THEN homework!!! 🍎
✅ Classical music only! No YouTube rabbit holes!!! 🎶
✅ No video games until it’s done (Sorry, Minecraft) 🎮
✅ Brain breaks = REQUIRED! 🧠💨
4. Praise the EFFORT, Not Just the Work! 🌟
We love a good “GOOD JOB!!!” moment, but here’s the trick: praise the effort, not just the outcome!!! Instead of “You got it right!!!”, try “I LOVE how hard you worked on that!!!” ✨Grab the Growth Mindset Activity Pack—because learning is so much more fun when kids see challenges as something they can totally handle!!!
5. Stuck? Ask the Teacher for Help ✋
If homework feels overwhelming, don’t be afraid to ask for modifications! You can:
✅ Request less homework if it’s too much.
✅ Ask for more time—an extra day or even until next week.
✅ See if it can be interest-based homework (so your kid is more engaged!).
Teachers love when parents check in because it helps them know when to reteach in class!!! Plus, if your child needs more support, they can connect you with an academic coach (like me!!!).
BOOM!!! You’re now officially ready to conquer homework!!! With these tips, homework time won’t feel like a battle—it’ll feel like a win!!!
