Episode #09: Meltdowns with Katie Cosby

Updated: Mar 30, 2021

Let’s get UNcomfortable, friends!

This week we are dealing with EMOTIONS. Our Littles sure can exhibit some big emotions, and even the best of us are sometimes stumped when it comes to figuring out how to deal with them in the moment, while also giving our Littles guidance so they can eventually learn to self-regulate as healthy adults. And doing all this while managing a classroom can seem like a truly insurmountable task!

Enter Katie Crosby, occupational therapist! She and I sat down this week to discuss all the tricks and tools you can use to help your Littles through without breaking a sweat:

Mentions:

How to let go of the need for control and convenience to be PRESENT, and allow our Littles to just… Get. It. Out!

How body sensations come with our Littles’ uncomfortable emotions, impacting their ability to regulate the way we do, and how to gently guide them through it.

How to utilize a “cozy corner” without it turning into a pseudo-time-out.

How to reframe “no” into “yes” without creating chaos in your classroom (or home).

How to create a foundation of connection and joy to foster healthy regulation before challenges arise.

Friends, I truly learn so much from my guests (and from my listeners, too)! Sharing this kind of content so that we can ALL grow as teachers and caregivers is why I love doing what I do, and this week is no exception!

So pour yourself some tea, pop in those earbuds, get UNcomfortable — don’t worry! after this podcast you’re going to be a pro at working through it — and tune into this week’s episode!
